Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid plastic surgery, is one of the most requested interventions. It is highly rewarding for the patient as the results are brilliant and eliminate that sad and tired look that is often caused by a drooping eyelid. The operation is indicated in all those cases in which there is either a relaxation of the eyelid skin or a protrusion of subcutaneous fat: the so-called "eyelid bags". Blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia and lasts about an hour.

Risks

If blepharoplasty surgery is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, complications are rare and usually minor. Minor complications include temporary edema of the external canthus (corner of the eye), a slight asymmetry of the scar, the appearance of millet grains along the sutures (which are also removed with a thin needle and with a very simple maneuver during one of the check-ups).

After the surgery

The surgery

The blepharoplasty operation requires from one to three hours depending on the number of eyelids to be operated on (only two or all four). The incisions are made along the natural lines and extend up to the "crow's feet" just outside the outer corner of the eye. The excess fat, responsible for the eyelid "bags", is then removed, and possibly the skin if it is in excess. Sometimes the muscle (orbicularis) is also trimmed. The incisions are then closed with particularly delicate intradermal sutures.

The new look

Healing is a gradual process that takes place over months. After two weeks, generally, the world around us is not aware of the surgery (since the signs have practically disappeared), but recovery times are much longer. The scar, for example, takes no less than 6 months before it becomes a white, almost invisible line.

Facial Lifting

The possibility of improving the appearance of a senescent face is given by the intervention of a facelift or rhytidectomy. The main aim is to obtain a brighter and more youthful face without distorting the course of nature. The technique involves stretching the skin and possibly the underlying surface through incisions hidden in the hair and around the auricle.
It can act on the entire face, but also on the frontal, temporal and neck regions and can be associated with a blepharoplasty or liposculpture to improve the result. Currently in great demand are mini-facelifts or partial facelifts which represent a good compromise because they are carried out in day-hospital, they are minimally invasive, require small scars and ensure quick recovery and a good aesthetic result.

Risks

If rhytidectomy is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, complications are rare and usually minor. However, it must be said that each individual has a personal response that is difficult to predict in terms of recovery. In addition to the generic complications (valid for all surgical interventions), it should be remembered the possibility of facial nerve stupor (usually temporary) and a slower and more difficult recovery for smokers for whom surgery is even contraindicated.

The surgery

The surgical procedure takes a few hours. The location and extension of the incisions varies depending on the individual clinical case. Generally they begin behind the hair line at the temple, extend downwards to the front of the ear along the natural folds, go around the earlobe going up behind the ear to its upper tip. If the neck also requires surgery, a small additional incision is made under the chin.

The new look

The changes after a facelift can be amazing, especially if you have the patience to get through the very first moments of post-surgery. Unfortunately, the scars are quite long, but all well camouflaged. It must be remembered, however, that with a face lift we do not stop time and therefore the skin aging process, but we only turn back the hands of the clock, which is why it is possible that, after a few years, the need for a second one may arise again. intervention.
